Pottery Bootcamp 2022

July 30-31, 2022
9 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
Hosted by El Cajon Valley High School

Join us for 2 full days of fine tuning your throwing skills and learning new hand building techniques. Your instructors will be Sam Lopez and Hasuyo Miller, 2 of our CASD members and hosted by Allen Reed.

WHEEL THROWING WITH SAM LOPEZ

This workshop is designed for potters looking to improve their throwing technique while increasing productivity and efficiency during work sessions. This two-day Bootcamp will challenge students with timed practice sessions focused on individual aspects of the throwing process, which will provide students with take-home knowledge that can help create structured studio practices. Sam will guide you through each session and provide feedback that will help you to tune into your body and settle into a rhythm at the wheel. Please Note: this workshop is not designed with the intention to keep finished work but rather is designed to challenge how we practice to tune-up our fundamentals and make dedicated efforts towards improvement. Cutting work in half if strongly encouraged. Students will need to bring a minimum of 100 lbs of their preferred throwing clay along with basic tools. www.slopstudios.com

HAND BUILDING WITH HASUYO MILLER

It’s been 3 years since I’ve seen many of you. It will be so exciting to share some ideas, techniques and a tool that I developed to help me to expand my forms. There are three projects that I think you will be happy to let your inner child’s imagination run with.

Cars (or a rocket ship?)

Masks

Wall sculptures (utilizing colored slips with an easy explanation of how you can create your own color pallet.)

Bring your own basic tool kit, 50 lbs of clay and you will receive a suggested list of tools you might want to add.

Looking forward to seeing you again and meeting new people.
